How long should a motivational book be




















Give examples and elaborate on your thoughts and feelings about the scenario you are using to provide supporting information. When I wrote my self-help book, I maintained a focus on the central theme, just as if I was writing a novel.

I kept a logical sequence flowing. If I found myself running into a diversion, I reworked it. People thrive on opinions. They search for other people's opinions all the time. Showing authority on a subject can be as simple as having had experience with it. Writing about your own experience can be used as an example when writing a self-help book.

But you need to do it right. If it's all about you, then it might not provide useful information to the reader. However, it could be helpful if it is used correctly to reinforce a point you are trying to make. In the end, pull it all together with a conclusion that leaves the reader satisfied that they learned something. Make sure you leave the reader with some knowledge or ideas they may not have had before reading your book.

If you are genuinely thinking about becoming an author, you might try writing online articles first. You need to write quality content that provides useful information that readers are searching for online. Reader response will also help you fine-tune your writing. Take advantage of writing small segments of or more words online before attempting to put it into a book. I wish I had done that. After I published my self-help book, I thought of new ideas and better ways to say things.

However, it was too late. I did it backward, having published a book before writing articles online. I wish I knew about the flexibility of writing online before I completed my book. It would have given me a chance to test various topics first. Online publishing also includes the ability to get analytics reports from Google. These stats give you a good indication of how useful your written material is to your readers.

You may find that authoring online articles is a better path. I find that to be a better choice over book publishing. But once you have a portfolio of online articles, you can choose to create a book from your content if that is your decision.

If you know of a particular topic that you have a lot of experience with, you should consider sharing your knowledge. You can write about many things that will inspire and motivate others. See how many other authors are considering each of the following topics. When you make your selection below, you will see the results of others.

That may give you an idea of what to avoid because it's a saturated subject, or you may find one that you hadn't considered yet. Try writing in a different room, outside, or in a different color.

If you have had the good fortune to read Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill, then you might be familiar with another useful tool for overcoming lacking motivation. That tool is the creation of analogies that support your book. In Think and Grow Rich Hill uses the comparisons of rich and famous people to support or outline his points. When you are stuck, look to people you value and their lives to show examples of what you mean in your book.

That process opens up a door that bridges the gap between critical thinking and artistic thinking. As you write, consider that you are telling your story to one of your friends and as you do, write it down. When you tell your friends that you are writing a book what do you tell them? Write it down. What message are you trying to convey? Having a conversation with your book is an excellent technique for talking through the problems that you need to solve for others in a casual manner.

Try creative writing prompts as a way to challenge yourself to write. Those might include: Describe your surroundings — Look out the window and describe the first thing you see in great detail.

Keep a journal of these entries as though you are Darwin traipsing through the jungle. Try a word challenge — Open the dictionary and choose the first word you see. Use that word in a haiku or short quote that your main character might say. There are many writing prompts that writers use to jumpstart their brains and their motivation. Find a few that work well for you. Step 3 is to ask yourself how much do you really have to say? This is still respectable, if your content feels new and your writing is impressive.

Step 4 is measure your manuscript in word count, not pages. As you can see, you need to know your word count, not the number of pages your word processor produces.

If I were to ask you how long your book is, and you answer that it is manuscript pages, I am still not clear. Use your word processor to figure out your average word count per manuscript page and your total word count. If you can decide on the right vision for your book, and you therefore know your trim size, you can tailor your writing to your target.

If you know you need to write 40, words and your content calls for 10 chapters, then you should be aiming for 4, words per chapter. If they want a 6 X 9 book, this is only about 66 pages—almost not a book. I hope this information has helped you gain clarity about your book.
